Wyman’s Teen Outreach Program® is a comprehensive, evidence-based strategy meant to prepare youth for a successful future. Teens participate in clubs once a week for activities, discussion and volunteer service learning. TOP’s® Changing Scenes Curriculum© helps teenagers develop resiliency, compassion, conflict resolution skills, and goals for their future. The program has proven to reduce teen pregnancy and keep teenagers in school.
TOP has three essential goals:
- Promote Healthy Behavior
- Teach Life Skills
- Promote Sense of Purpose
Who is eligible?
Any Shreveport-Bossier resident between the ages of 12 and 17.
What is required?
- Weekly attendance at club meetings
- Minimum of 20 hours of community service per year
- Evaluation of what you’ve learned (this is where the gift cards come in)
What does evidence-based mean?
That means studies have shown the following results in teenagers who participate in the TOP® program:
• 52% Reduction in the risk of suspension
• 60% Reduction in the risk of course failure
• 53% Reduction in the risk of pregnancy or fathering a child
